rosi robinson - contemporary ARTIST

This is my most recent work which can be viewed in the Sayle Gallery's exhibition COAST, July 2013

My name is Rosi Robinson and I am a contemporary abstract artist living on the Isle of Man.

I have always  enjoyed art  from a very early age and some of my  happiest memories are  of  new colouring in books for use when visiting relatives. This enjoyment continued through my school years, with art often offering me a place
of escape.
Somehow life happens and I trained as a Primary teacher in Art and Design. I also re-trained as a Secondary School art teacher and then I trained  to work with vulnerable students. At one point, I also set up and ran ARTS ALIVE, a community arts gallery. During these phases, my own arts  praxis took second place as my creativity was spent in supporting my students, who often won various arts prizes. When I had energy for my own work, I too won arts prizes.
I enjoyed teaching but when it suddenly came to an end, 2years ago, due to government 'cut backs'. I knew it was 'my' time to be creative. I love studying  and 'dropped in' for a year onto a BA in Fine Art. I knew this would get me back into an arts praxis. Not many years previous to this I had had a fantastic 3 years gaining  a BA (2.1) in Contemporary Arts at Manchester Met. University. I continued to study at postgraduate level, which came to a halt when I returned to the Isle of Man.

I enjoy investigating any type of  contemporary art work.

My personal focus at the present time is abstract/semi-abstract painting, much of which has been created, as a Sayle Gallery Artist, for themed shows at The Sayle Gallery.

However. I have  also studied and practiced in the disciplines of  embroidered textiles, calligraphy, stained glass, new media and video , ceramics and  public art.....from City and Guilds courses to MA modules.

So, where is my muse leading at the moment?

Apart from working towards several planned joint exhibitions, I would like to deepen a couple of themes......by that I mean taking time out for exploratory and developmental work.

Initial start up themes might be based on .....

'the landscape', or 'the sublime', or 'containers',  .....or.........or....?

Just need to give 'the  muse' space  and permission.........so exciting  (and terrifying) to see what might or might not  emerge.
